When silver ceased to be part of coinage, the Treasury sold off most of its silver. I think it still owns some, but the holdings are of no significance either to silver or to the dollar--as far as I can remember. Maybe someone has more exact facts and dates. I do--but in books at home.

Whatever the backing of the new euro-currency, I don't think silver will be part of it. I haven't followed the euro closely enough to know just how it is being set up.
