Gadzoox Networks Expands Into Japan Through Key Distribution Partnerships

Gadzoox Signs Distributor Agreements with Two Major Japanese Companies: Itochu Electronics and Tokyo Electron Limited

SAN JOSE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 11, 1998-- Gadzoox Networks, Inc., supplier of the industry's only complete family of Fibre Channel storage area networking (SAN) solutions, today announced the company has taken an important step in penetrating the Japanese SAN market and has signed distribution agreements with two leading distribution companies, Itochu Electronics and Tokyo Electron Limited (TEL).

These agreements allow both distributors to resell the entire Gadzoox product line to OEMs and resellers in Japan. Itochu Electronics is a division of the US$187 billion Itochu Corporation and a major supplier of SCSI RAIDs, disk arrays and multi-media data center products. TEL is the leading supplier of networking, I/O technology solutions, and semiconductor manufacturing equipment with sales revenue US$3.3 billion.

''When we first started looking at the Japanese market, we knew that to be successful it was critical that we begin by establishing the right distribution partnerships,'' said Kent Bridges, vice president of worldwide sales for Gadzoox. ''Our strategy was to partner with key distributors who have identified Fibre Channel as an important part of their strategy and to leverage these relationships to penetrate major OEM accounts, establish a reseller channel and sell to end-users. These agreements with Itochu Electronics and TEL position Gadzoox solidly in the Japan market and make Itochu and TEL the strategic extension of Gadzoox in the region.''

''Both TEL and Itochu Electronics viewed Fibre Channel technology and a relationship with Gadzoox as strategic to their future product offering enabling them to provide their customers complete Fibre Channel solutions,'' said Howey Chin, chief strategic officer for Gadzoox. ''Both companies chose to partner with Gadzoox not only because of the products being offered today, but more importantly because of Gadzoox' future product directions and its support plans for the Japanese market.''

TEL and Itochu Electronics will offer Gadzoox' full line of Fibre Channel infrastructure products including the Gibraltar family
of managed hubs, the Denali area switch, and Ventana, the industry's first SAN management architecture.

Gadzoox Networks, Inc. is the industry leader in Gigabit-speed Fibre Channel Arbitrated Loop products for the open storage area networking (SAN) market. Gadzoox' mission is to enable advanced server and storage applications by bringing networking to storage within the concept of SAN, a highly scalable, managed server-storage infrastructure.
