What a week we have had. Our 7 month old, Michael, got his first tooth, sat up by himself and began crawling all in the same week. He was constipated for the first time too, which put a slight damper on our Mother's Day celebration since he cried the entire time he was up between 5 and 11 in the morning. I had to stay at home with him so I missed Mass, where my wife sang Ave Maria. I'm really sorry I missed it, because she doesn't get a chance like that too often, especially on Mother's Day.
I was able to calm him down (or, more accurately, he wore himself out crying) for a nap around 11 am. He had a BM during his nap, and a much more explosive one later in the day, and he is feeling fine now. Thankfully we didn't have to use a suppository.
The episode reminded us of when our 4 year old, Stephen, was in a similar predicament around the same age. He had gone 3 or 4 days without a BM and we were talking about it in the car on the way home from somewhere. He was in his seat in the back. My wife said, "maybe we should give him a suppository when we get home." Before I could respond, a loud rumble from the back seat and a satisfied smile from Stephen indicated that there was no need for further intervention.
With Michael feeling better, we went to the park for a picnic (just the 4 of us) and retired later in the day to gin and tonics on the deck and a couple of strip steaks on the grill. It was probably the finest weather day we have had all spring.
