While you're absolutely right about Premiere having a very large
installed base, it actually isn't in the same market category as
Avid Cinema.

You cite Premiere as being "low end" and that's true too.

Where I interpreted from your message that you might have the
wrong idea is that Avid Cinema is targeted at people who think
even Premiere is way too high-end for them. In other words,
Premiere is something that an Avid Cinema user might graduate
to - this extreme low end is a relatively untouched market.

I've often run into this very same difference in definitions
myself. I'd say "you know, mass market!" and be thinking of people
who use Premiere. The person I'm talking to would be thinking
"mass market == people who use Quicken or e-mail."

Also, I think you may be wrong about Avid "not" buying from
TRUV. I haven't heard that at all. But, while I do work for
Avid, I've been on Mr. Clinton's Family Medical Leave (baby boy)
for two months.
