Does OS X mean "Mac on Intel"? Is the Unix kernal still there? Yes, it should mean that Carbon-compatible MacOS apps can run on Intel (on Rhapsody/Intel). And yes, they are still using the Mach (Unix) kernel, both for Rhapsody and MacOS X. Essentially they are adding 6,000 Mac toolbox calls as a Carbon library to Rhapsody, while getting rid of the 2,000 that would have been incompatible. Re: the name "Carbon," Jobs quipped "it's what all life forms are based on." So although he didn't draw out these implications (for some strategic reason, I guess), the strategy does seem to be run everywhere, even more than it was before. rhet0ric
