Apple Unveils Awesome New Operating System Strategy
After recommitting to the Mac OS in a very big way under his administration at Apple, interim CEO Steve Jobs today dropped a bombshell: Apple is dropping its previous designs for Rhapsody and replacing it with a radically improved product, Mac OS X. According to Jobs, although Rhapsody had some great technology, it simply was not providing its developers and customers what they wanted.
Developers certainly seemed excited, at least judging from the audience response.
Microsoft software chief Ben Waldman, the head of the Redmond-based company's Macintosh software division, came on stage to show support for Apple's new plans, saying the company was very excited.
QuickTime to Gain Interactive Broadcasting Features:
During his keynote today at the Worldwide Developers Conference in San Jose, California, Apple interim chief Steve Jobs introduced a new feature to be found in this fall's update of QuickTime 3.0: interactive broadcasting. Just as can be done today with RealSystems' RealMedia platform, QuickTime 3.0 this year will gain functionality
allowing broadcasters and other customers the ability to broadcast live, full quality QuickTime video across the Internet and other networks using the new standard protocol for streaming, RTP. |
