Perkin-Elmer -- TIGR -- AFFX -- Hyseq

perkin-elmer.com

This old link mentions the relationship between PKN and Hyseq and possible use of Hyseq's DNA chips in the new Applied Biosystems sequencer. Presumably PKN also mentioned Hyseq as a partner in the sequencing, although I have not seen any specific details of how PKN (AB) plans to accelerate the sequencing.

More about the PKN/HYSQ relationship and part of the NY Times story (this link specifically mentions that AFFX would be BENEFITED by this development):

The NY Times story could well be what was responsible for the rush to buy AFFX this morning. Of course the whole market tanked later in the day.

As to the relationship to AFFX, there have been posts here of the "unfriendly" relationships of AFFX and HYSQ but also, I believe, assertions that HYSQ may be infringing on certain AFFX patents. Thus I could see AFFX either benefiting by the announcement or getting involved in more legal wrangles.

Whatever, I suspect that AFFX and the world will benefit by earlier completions of the human genome sequencing and it would accelerate ALL genetic testing.

The company that could be hurt is Incyte, which was down significantly today, but see a more optimistic view for Incyte in this link.

Currently I am out of AFFX but I look at this as a positive development, overall
