For the smart card to work like the WaveMeter, it would have to get all electronic content "SmartCard Enabled." And if it were enabled, it would still only be saleable over HP machines, unless HP were going to make a move to make its smartcards functional for all existing PCs. Even then, you'd have to go out an buy one. Even though it's harder to get established, it seems much better to me to have the meter installed on-board and then to deliver content that's too good not to try. I wouldn't go out and buy a smartcard dongle for my PC just so that I could try out a new game. But if the meter were already installed, I'd have a hard time not using it. Also, I highly doubt that smartcards can be made as hack-resistant as the WaveMeter.

Those are a few of my thoughts, for what they're worth.
