Cendant already has a web-site that competes with
Amazon and Barnes & Noble, and you don't have to pay
any membership fee to use it. In fact, with a click
of a button, it compares prices with Amazon and Barnes & Noble
and then lowers the price automatically to beat them.
It's at books.com

The thing about me is that I don't like to pay a membership
fee so somehow I am not as bullish over the membership fee
concept. I'd rather pay a slightly higher non-membership
price on the occasion that I shop there (the non-membership
price is still lower than competitors). Apparently
their netmarket web site allows non-members to shop at
a slightly higher price. books.com has no membership
fee. They also have www.musicspot.com and www.goodmovies.com
however these sites don't seem as good as the competitors
like MusicBlvd.
