There's a great book called "Mob Rule: Inside the Canadian Mafia" by Canada's Mafia expert James Dubro. It provides some context to the Ontario environment which resulted in making David Peterson a controversial figure. One figure mentioned in "Mob Rule" is Marco Muzzo and his connections to the Ontario Liberals and Peterson are well known. As well, Angelo and Elvio Delzotto with whom Peterson has has even further dealings receive considerable coverage in the book (published in 1985 by Macmillan of Canada). There was a major public scandal in 1987 when Peterson tried to have DelZotto appointed as Vice Chair of the Ontario Police Commission. Elvio was the Chair of the federal wing of the Liberals in Ontario for years. He and Angelo were more than incidentally involved in a Mafia attempt to take over the construction industry (unions and businesses) in the early 1970s as documented in the Waisberg Commission (Ontario's Royal Commission into Certain Sectors of the Contruction Industry) and in Dubro's "Mob Rule". There was a subsequent scandal that occurred when Peterson's family business was bought at an inflated price by Marco Muzzo.

Bottom line is - if you know your Canadian history you'd be better off considering the nuts and bolts of Magnex than hanging too much on the reputation of David Peterson.
