CANNES, France--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 12, 1998--

Scenes From "Titanic" and "The Fifth Element" Will Be Used

to Show Spectacular Visual Effects Created With inferno

Discreet Logic Inc. (Nasdaq:DSLGF) Tuesday announced that inferno, the
company's premier film visual-effects system, will be demonstrated for the first time at
the International Market of Techniques and Innovation in Cinema (MITIC), part of
the 51st Cannes International Film Festival, May 13-24 (booth No. E8).

The MITIC, taking place alongside the Marche International du Film, will focus on
the evolution of technologies influencing the film-creation industry, including visual
effects and editing, and is being conceived as an essential place of exchange and
discovery for cinema professionals, filmmakers, producers and technicians present at
the international film festival.

Discreet Logic will be demonstrating the power of inferno using actual scenes taken
from the Academy Award-winning feature films "Titanic" and "The Fifth Element."
Demonstrations will be held every hour from May 13 to 24. There will be a special
"Titanic" presentation on Friday, May 15, from 3 to 4 p.m.

Discreet Logic will also be hosting a preview presentation demonstrating how some
of the most spectacular visual effects in the French movie "Taxi" were created.

The demonstration will be held by Medialab, the Paris-based post-production facility
that worked extensively with inferno on the film, and the film's director, Gerard Pires.
The presentation will take place in the MITIC screening room on Saturday, May 16,
from 10 a.m. to noon.

Adopted by the film industry, inferno offers an integrated suite of
image-enhancement, motion-tracking and effects tools specifically tailored for the
feature-film industry.

The system features multilayer compositing, motion tracking and stabilizing, warping,
morphing, keying and sophisticated creative tools essential for film projects,
including the ability to work at higher bit depth per color channel, higher spatial
image resolution and grain management. Artists using inferno can receive the
immediate feedback required for true online experimentation and client-driven design.
