Is the CD-ROM dead?

I am not sure why some of you are partying. Reading between the lines of the news release, it seems the expected revenues and fat margins from CD-ROM sales are evaporating.

Read this from the PR:
<<Most new clients are moving directly to adopting comprehensive programs and by-passing the pilot stage that had been a typical program element to date. The costly 'awareness building' element of our sales and marketing program will be significantly reduced in this
and subsequent quarters with those resources re-directed to closing additional specific programs and growing core business
relationships with our new clients. >>

Doesn't this mean that companies aren't buying the front end analytic services? If you combine this paragraph with recent news of poor sell-through of CD through Wonderware, can't we conclude that y2k software sales are falling far short of expectation?

Read on:

<<''Development of PlantY2K One(TM) Rev. 2.0 was completed in late April. With Rev. 2.0 complete, no further major
development effort will be directed to anything other than continued expansion of the vendor management database. The
company's product development resources have been re-directed to programs put on hold during the Y2K ramp up and new
programs that have grown out of the Y2K engagement experience. >>

No further development of software tools? Moving away from y2k products? y2k being spoken of in the past tense?? Sounds like TAVA is moving away from y2k and re-focussing on non-y2k stuff, whatever form that takes.

This was supposed to be the quarter where TAVA shoots out the y2k lights. they barely managed to eke out a top line gain over 1997. And software sales grew **only 20%** from a very small base.

I sold the remainder of my TAVA today. TAVA will continue to grow, but the fantastic returns are simply not there. TAVA is now overvalued, the exicting aspect of the investment thesis is gone.
