TJX COMPANIES INC reported 3Q EPS of $0.97 vs $0.44 on revenues
of $1.72 bln vs $861.2 mln last year. Analysts' mean estimates
were $0.82, according to First Call. 3Q 1996 includes gain of
$0.10 per share from discontinued operations. 3Q 1996 includes
charge of $2.9 million, or $0.03 per share, from the early

* TJX COMPANIES INC said it expects a strong holiday season to
result in a "significant" increase in 4Q profits and lead to
projected income from continuing operations between $2.20 and
$2.25 per share for 1996. The company said it also expects to see
further cost savings from the combination of its T.J. Maxx and
