MEMCO Software Announces Single Sign-On Partner Strategy

REDWOOD CITY, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 12, 1998--MEMCO Software (Nasdaq: MEMCF - news) today announced the company's plans to aggressively expand its Proxima SSO (Single Sign-On) software product line with strategic partners in four key software areas: system frameworks, authentication, encryption and security administration. MEMCO believes integration in these areas is essential for organizations to fully implement and benefit from single sign-on technology.

''A successful single sign-on product must be open and flexible, recognizing that no single vendor will be able to address every need in a complex computing environment,'' stated Steven Foote at Hurwitz Group. ''Vendors that adopt an aggressive partnering strategy and commit to product integration will meet their customers' requirements.''

''Proxima's partner strategy ensures our customers benefit from a total solution, which is not available with point products,'' commented Lina Liberti, product manager at MEMCO. ''With our partners, we will help companies plan long-term security directions and maximize their technology investments. With Proxima, our customers can roll out single sign-on today-confident that it has the flexibility to meet their needs in the future.''

Since its launch in 1997, Proxima SSO has already been purchased by several of the world's largest companies. With Proxima, these organizations are able to automate user logins and streamline security administration--thereby increasing productivity and enhancing security. Due to the fast implementation of Proxima, organizations can typically achieve a return on investment (ROI) within one year.

 MEMCO's System Frameworks Partners

Framework solutions provide a foundation for managing the many components of a distributed computing enterprise. Among other benefits, a framework provides for consistent administration, monitoring and alerting across all systems and applications.

By integrating Proxima with the leading system framework providers including Tivoli Systems (TME-10), Computer Associates (Unicenter TNG), and Hewlett-Packard (OpenView), MEMCO will offer customers even greater control over their enterprise systems.

 MEMCO's Authentication Partners

Authentication verifies the identity of a user and is the first logical step in the single sign-on process. Proxima SSO provides customers the option to use a variety of third-party authentication mechanisms depending on their security requirements. MEMCO is working closely with the top authentication vendors, including CyberSafe (Challenger), Entrust (Certificates), NRI (Biometrics), SecureComputing (Safeword) and Security Dynamics (SecureID). MEMCO is also developing an Authentication Toolkit to assist any authentication vendor's integration with Proxima. This approach will enable Proxima customers to use virtually any mainstream method of user authentication.

 MEMCO's Encryption Partners

To strengthen network security, MEMCO is working with Entrust's PKI encryption technology. The Entrust product can be used with Proxima to further secure network transfer of user IDs and passwords as well as communication between Proxima SSO and its application agents.

 MEMCO's Security Administration Partners

Recognizing the importance of integrating single sign-on with security administration products as long ago as 1996, MEMCO established a formal development relationship that year with EagleEye Control Software. The relationship has now evolved into a strategic OEM agreement, in which CONTROL-SA, EagleEye's powerful security management package, is the basis for Proxima Manager--MEMCO's security administration product which is closely integrated with Proxima SSO.

To provide customers with multiple user management options, MEMCO is working with Control Data Systems (GUA), Schumann (SAM) and Technologics (RAS). Integration with these products will allow customers to manage user sign-on from both Proxima and the user administration product.
