This decision was driven by decreasing demand for MIPS-based systems from its customers and original equipment manufacturers (OEMs). In particular, Microsoft's largest OEM for the MIPS platform, NEC Corp., has decided not to provide the MIPS platform beyond the Microsoftr Windows NTr version 4.0 operating system. Over the last five years, Microsoft has shown a strong commitment to the MIPS platform. The company has released Windows NT Workstation 4.0 and Windows NT Server 4.0 in most major languages. Longer-term customers should plan to evaluate other hardware platforms for Windows NT-based solutions. Customer satisfaction is Microsoft's primary concern. The company will continue to offer technical support to its customers who use Windows NT 4.0 on the MIPS platform.
