Bottom line
* things suck now, but they really suck for Applied's competitors
* Applied knows how to navigate in bad weather, have seen lots worse over the years
* This lull helps Applied in a few ways, the most important is a breather to allow time to focus on a wide array of new products/markets and get ready for the next upturn
* next upturn? Yes, its fair to assume the insatiable consumptionm of chips will continue. Asia etc. is meaningless in and of itself except for its lowering overalll chip demand somewhat. The only thing that matters to the chip equip. industry is chip demand, and the switch to .25 and .18 and the move to new processses. Chip demand moves capacity needs, the others move the repacement market.
