India has set off more tests to obtain more data, before they will sign CTBT. 2nd set of testing is purely a scientific decision and not a slap on the face as the other countries perceive. Indian scientists and the Govt decided that they gather more data in the heat of the moment , because future testing would be more difficult politically and will draw more international outrage.
As far as aid is concerned, it will affect the country's economy to a certain extent. Indians, having been used to deprivation, invasion etc over 5 thousand years and having demonstrated ability to thrive and innovate under difficult conditions, this aid withholding will be suffered through with dignity. If you want to see dignity in poverty , go and see it in India.
Aid donor countries also should know that that they are alienating the vast masses of Indians, whose memory goes back several thousand years.
Aid-giving countries should also be careful not in isolating India, because that will only intensify India's resolve to develop on its own resources. They should know that china developed on its own before Nixon felt the compulsion not to ignore a country of that size.
Hard realities of international commerce will take over and keep India in the family of nations.
All you hear in the newspapers and from world leaders is noise, because in the ultimate analysis, these protesters are not going to come to rescue, when India's security is threatened. A moral standing does not confer immunity against invasion from a country, as India has experienced it from China once before and several times historically from other invaders.
Things will cool down and India will sign the NPT and CTBT, now that they got sufficient data from these tests. And all the countries will resume their business as usual with India. Or Ignore and alienate India at their own risk.
