Rentrak To Process Blockbuster Data

PORTLAND, Oreg., May 13 /PRNewswire/ -- Rentrak Corporation (Nasdaq: RENT) today announced that, effective immediately, it has been selected by a major motion picture studio to process for the studio all of the rental and used sale data related to the studio's revenue sharing arrangement with Blockbuster Video, the nation's largest video retailer. Rentrak said the studio, which it did not identify, has also retained Rentrak to audit the data from Blockbuster.
As previously reported in various publications, Blockbuster has been entering into agreements with certain studios to provide it with video cassettes on revenue sharing terms. Blockbuster also entered into an agreement to obtain some video cassettes directly through Rentrak. The relationship announced today, Rentrak said, allows the studio doing business with Blockbuster to be assured of timely reporting of accurate data from Blockbuster at lower cost than if it had developed systems of its own to obtain and audit the data.
