I got curiouser and curiouser about this whole subject of naked shorting, so I did some yahooing on the subject. Found this link:

bigmouth.pathfinder.com

Also found this on another website:

"The simplest short selling strategy is a 'naked short' strategy where a dealer anticipates a price decline in a particular stock and attempts to capitalise on his belief by selling a stock 'short', or in other words, selling stocks that he does not already own."

The biggest eye-opener for me was the assertion, in the article under the link, that market makers are not subject to the rules about naked shorting, and indeed some market makers are in business solely to engage in the practice.

I don't understand how the SEC can allow this situation to continue.
