I am a firm believer in Sun's products and strategy, and expect it to succeed over the long run; however, I must admit I find their obsession with MSFT a trifle annoying. Fair or unfair, MSFT will and (from their perspective) should try to fragment Java standards as it represents one of the few remaining threat to Windows. Sun already has a lawsuit in the courts over the license terms dispute. There is nothing that prevents SUN from selling or giving its 100% percent Java browser to PC computer makers (MSFT monopoly notwithstanding) if they are concerned over developers standardizing around MSFT's version of impure Java. If computer makers saw value in the proposition they would adopt it. If MSFT uses muscles from preventing them incorporating Sun's Java in the Windows they are shipping (a la Netscape), it will lend credence to the broad anti-trust suit from the Justice Dept.
Filing lawsuits to have Windows 98 altered / modified to conform to Sun's Java , in my opinion, is ludicrous. Also, one should pick one's battles (and the lawsuit over the license agreement appears reasonable, and with a lot of precedence) . Filing lawsuits at the drop of a hat does not enhance your credibility and perception in the marketplace. - it is bad strategy, and could continue to contribute to underperformance of the stock.

Alok
