Dear Ann; I agree 100% with your motivation to save the child. There are a few sticky points. The perpetrators were a whole tribe, who truly believed that the lessor evil was to ensure the crops, allowing the whole village to eat for a year, saving many lives. I believe they were mistaken in this belief. I don't think trying to take the child would work when you are so outnumbered. Storming the place with guns would also cause a moral dilemma for me. The way the situation was finally dealt with were Christian missionaries who saw the error, and lovingly over a period of time worked to change the hearts and minds of the people involved.
Praise Yeshua.

I apologize for making such an extreme example. It does make the point that sometimes an organized group can with a common belief of love do good that the individual lover of G-d cannot.

Another case which is not quite so emotionally gripping. There is a religion that is practiced in South Florida called Santoria. It is a combination of Catholicism and Voodoo. An important part of this belief system is to sacrifice animals while performing ritual dance and singing. Suppose with me that these people were living next to you, and performing these rituals where your children could watch. This is not a made up example and a great political debate about this issue occurred in the Miami area. Would you ask them to stop? What moral authority would you appeal to?

I hope you don't feel picked on by my questions. These issues are broad, and I feel many people here could benefit from our discussion. I sense you are a loving person and won't mind pursuing this with me. If anyone else would like to comment, please feel free.
