Sorry, but I can't agree entirely with your comment about trying to maximize the greatest gains for your investment. Modern portfolio theory emphasizes the tradeoff between risk and rate of return. Most investors look at risk for their investment decisions. That's why companies like T and some of the other Dow stocks appeal to the "widows and orphans" contingent, while stocks like KTEL appeal to the Mississippi gamblers among us.

In any event, you can always increase your potential rate of return through leverage. Buying on margin and mortgaging the house are common ways to effect this. But the point is that these methods substanitally increase the risks. There is no free lunch -- except if I can con someone else into buying <VBG>.
