RE: <Celeron2 launch moved up to June>

If you look at the roadmap at tomshardware.com carefully, it seems that the June launch will just be the same Celeron with a 300 MHz rating. My guess is that it will assume a 100 MHz bus speed and have a fixed multiplier of 3.

That will make both chips pretty much un-overclockable, since the 266 MHz Celeron is pretty "iffy" at 400 MHz (100 x 4) and requires surgury, larger fans and a BX motherboard to achieve it.

A 300 MHz cacheless Celeron on 100 MHz bus will be a decent performer and work about as well as an $85 K6-233 on Winbench '97 or '98. Since most of the public only understands "MHz" however, AMD will have to drop the price of the K6-300 to at least the Celery 300 level in June.
