It just so happens that Mr. Carlson has a toll free number for his "Free 24-hour Hotline. It's a direct stock purchase plan clearinghouse. It would be a good place to start. The number is 1-800-774-4117. If you call you can choose from a number of companies that offer DRIPs. I would also recommend that you write to Charles B. Carlson at 7412 Calumet Ave., Suite 200, Hammond, IN 46324-2692 for a copy of DRIP Investor and information on how to subscribe. Not all companies that offer DRIPs are good investments. The newsletter is a good place to start to search. Carlson seems pretty straight forward.
I hope this helps you out some. You can also find companies you'd like to invest in and call them to see if they offer DRIPs and who handles their plans for them, usually a bank. Some companies require that you own at least one share of their stock before you can enroll in their plan and purchase additional shares. Others will allow you to purchase your first shares directly through their plan. Exxon, Lucent Technologies, McDonald's, Procter & Gamble and Regions Financial are some. They all have 800 numbers you can call to get enrollment forms sent to you. I think if you send a stamped, self-addressed envelop to Mr. Carlson he will send you a list.
Good luck,

James
