FD, I have my Internet bill come on my local phone bill. Been like that for months here. Who's your local phone company? Mine's Pacific Bell. They're an ISP, as well, and distribute CD-ROMs, etc. to sign up with them. Its really convenient, when you sign up you can choose credit card or on your local bill. However, I have a feeling that within a year, that charge will be on my TCI cable bill. Talking about the Start Web site, (btw, I'm fully Mac-based and can't stand anything Microsoft, no offense...) I think they're instantly a formidable competitor. You have to think it'll be the default portal site on the default browser on the default OS (Windows) of just about every computer. But, 1) According to an earlier post (of which I have not independantly verified), SEEK has a european deal with the Microsoft browser and 2) MSN has pretty much been a flop, even being a default ISP on Windows and in any way can that model be applied to this? I agree with Irby that the portals will be the neteverythings and I can see Microshaft wanting that. They've got Investor, Expedia, Slate, MSNBC (BIG plug in Deep Impact) and a dozen others, I'm sure. Someone else told me those type sites will be the applications of the future.... On the other hand Microshaft might faulter by spreading itself too thin (MSN). I'll stick with Motro for a while b/c a big media conglomerate might want to compete with Microsoft in the content and portal biz (CBS, TimeWarner, DIS) and I want a piece of this merger mania. |
