I believe they bought an existing fibre optics network from Fonorola that goes from Ontario to the West Coast of Canada. BCE intends to expand their existing network to the East Coast.

The Sale of C&W will yield close to $2.2B (Cdn). Perhaps GTE will try to get some of that cash (they own 1/2 of BCTel) As NN's equipment is in use, it would seem to me that the business is theirs, all else equal.
