John, i've had quite a few conversations with A/W senior folk, and all view Maya1.0 as a snapshot of a work in progress. they had to "get it out there". over the next few years there are some very cool things planned for maya, that will give it elegance. Curious Pictures in NY just committed to Maya for a project, A/W is furnishing them with a crew that have been working with Maya internally for quite a while, members of the "Bingo" team. Maya is not the kind of software that someone who has been using PA or SI can jump into and start on some large project. Curious had to get A/W staff who had immense training internally to take on the project with Maya. Sony and Disney have the cash and technical staff to play with Maya, the rest of us are happily making money with PA or our current app, which is mature and familiar.
A/W just closed three development centers, and a few sales offices, and let 90 people go. they overestamated the acceptance of Maya.
