Once again, the April 1998 BTT journal reports that Identix enjoyed a "hugely successful" year selling access control devices, especially Touchlock IIs, to the point where the Touchlock II has become the model for the industry. In particular, BTT referred to imitators from BII and TSSI, and says it expects more imitations to come.
Mytec is reported to have sold its Touchstone Windows NT security product to TRW in Cleveland . . . NRID is hoping to renegotiate its Cogent deal or mutually terminate it (I infer from that that NRID can't break the deal unilaterally without penalty) . . . Palm printers are out from DBI, NEC (via their Heimann partner) and IDX, with the market expected to grow during 1998.
And finally, believe it or not . . .
Again from BTT: A report that homosexual men have significantly fewer ridges on their right thumb than heterosexuals, and about the same number of ridges as women. This suggests a common gene at work. BTT noted privacy concerns that could arise from the use of fingerprint imaging (rather than minutiae or, I would add, IDX's algorithm). Who is using imaging? SACM? Who else? (Not that there's anything wrong with that.) |
