A noogie (nougie?) is a sharp jab, usually to the scalp area of the head, designed to raise a small lump on one's noggin. It is administered by making a tight fist, and then letting the index knuckle protrude a little bit. The rap is delivered by the protruding knuckle. They're sometimes administered to the upper arm, which has the same reddening effect as well as a small welt. Most all juvenile boys have been givers and receivers of noogies. Oh, they sometimes hurt like hell for a few minutes, but the pain goes away. A passage to or rites of manhood, I guess.
