Vtel and Sprint!

WASHINGTON, Nov 13 (Reuter) - Sprint Corp said it was
awarded a five-year $50 million contract from the U.S. Army to
install a video network that would provide elaborate video
conferencing technology to the Army, U.S. Department of Defense
and other government agencies.

Sprint said its turnkey network, at 118 sites, would
include terrestrial and satellite components, offering
permanent, deployable and mobile equipment.

Education, training and other two-way video applications
could be delivered directly to the battlefield via mobile or
deployable units, it said.

Soldiers in remote locations could attend classes
originating from one site and fully interact with the
instructor and one another using video and data, Sprint said.

The so-called Video Tele-Training Network contract was
awarded by the U.S. Army Training and Doctrine Command.

Sprint would install and operate equipment at all network
sites and the Network Control Center at Fort Eustis, Va.

Sprint said its subcontractors in the deal were Commercial
Satellite Systems Inc and VTEL Inc.
