I did an experiment a few months back. I called up Dell and asked them if I could have Netscape installed instead of IE. I was told no, they only provided IE. I than asked if I didn't want IE,how could I get it. I was told to download it off the net. OK, I asked how could I get on the net. I was told to activate IE, than download Netscape, than de-activate IE.

Now, if I was a standard American buying a computer do you really think I would go to all that trouble?

I think thats the real issue about bundling this in the OS. Yes, legally IE has competition, but in reallity as long as its bundled in there is no competition. Unfortunately, this is lost in the legal mumbo jumbo.

If you really wanted a competitive world, Windows would come basically blank and you downloaded whatever you wanted. Probably not going to happen.
