today announced net income of $2.6 million, or $0.12 per share on a
diluted basis, for its first quarter ended May 2, 1998, compared to a
net loss of $862,000, or ($0.04) per share on a diluted basis, in the
first quarter of 1997. Total sales increased 32% and comparable store
sales increased 10%, the third consecutive quarter of double-digit comp
sales increases.

Trans World Entertainment Corporation (Nasdaq National Market:TWMC ) today announced
record sales and earnings for its fiscal year-ended January 31, 1998. Net income in fiscal 1997
increased 190% to $20.6 million, or $1.05 per share, on sales of $571.3 million versus net income of
$7.1 million, or $0.36 per share, on sales of $481.7 million in fiscal 1996. Total sales for the year
were up 19% and comparable store sales increased 10%. |
