Harry - Re: " But I do find it frustrating that Intel's customers, like Dell and Gateway, are benefiting more from Intel's superb execution than Intel seems to be."

Dell is a PC company and has thousands of customers.

Intel is a CPU manufacturer and has a hundred or two customers.

The cost of factories, overhead, etc. are considerably lower for Dell. Let's face it - A lot of Intel's R & D becomes FREE R & D for Dell!

Re: "Do you think this problem of getting more software for hi-speed chips is one reason Andy is moving to Chairman, so he can jump-start that effort?"

Yes and no - Grove has been doing this very same thing for about 5 or 8 years. By giving up the CEO title, he is stepping away from day-to-day activities and focusing more on just "industry expansion" issues.
