Compaq for March 98 earned 1&cent
Compaq for March 97 earned 27&cent

I believe Yahoo uses trailing earnings (last year's) to compute P/E. This presents a problem when you compare the P/E for two stocks that are growing earnings at significantly different rates. Dell is growing earnings at 60+%.
