You don't get a clone "Reagent" unless you sign a licensing agreement that goes beyond the terms of the database subscription. These include the royalties and milestones payments. The dbase deals get you access to computer data only. If I recall correctly, they had 6000 of these deals signed by January of this year, up from 2000 at the annual meeting last spring. Like any kind of exploration, I would expect most of these to be dry holes, but the strikes could bring in significant future cash. Policing any kind of patent or contract is always a hairy issue, but the big Pharmas are probably more interested in long term relationships than trying to rip you off on a one time deal.
