Daktronics, Inc. Signs Contract to Provide Scoreboards for 2000 Sydney Olympics
BROOKINGS, S.D., May 14 /PRNewswire/ -- Daktronics, Inc. (Nasdaq: DAKT - news) announced today that it has signed a contract with SMH, the parent company of Swiss Timing of Switzerland, to provide scoreboards, matrix displays, and technical support services at the 2000 Olympics in Sydney, Australia. Swatch holds the sponsorship rights for the official timing and scoring of the 2000 Olympic Summer Games and Paralympic Games.
The multi-million dollar contract calls for Daktronics to provide public scoreboards and displays at a majority of the competition venues. A variety of the Company's reflective, incandescent and LED (light emitting diode) display technologies will be used throughout the Olympic venues. Certain Olympic venues in Australia, including the International Aquatics Centre and the Sydney Showground, already have Daktronics equipment installed and operational.
More than 50 Daktronics scoreboards and matrix displays will be used during the 2000 Olympics and Paralympics. The company's equipment will be providing scores, times and other information to millions of spectators at 34 different venues for 37 Olympic disciplines and 20 Paralympic disciplines.
Swiss Timing chose Daktronics because of its technical capabilities, experience at world class athletic contests, and its broad offering of highly functional and reliable display products. Daktronics provided more than 80 scoreboards and displays at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics for Swiss Timing. Daktronics and Swiss Timing first cooperated to provide timing and scoring information at the 1980 Olympic Winter Games in Lake Placid, N.Y.
