I think I am failing to make myself clear. I said that i dont pray to alligator gods. that was my lame attempt at a joke to say that I dont believe in it. I did say that I dont believe in killing children for any reason.
The part about ritual and religion is true in the sense that many times things are added to religion by man, that have little to do with the underlying religion. As far as this particular tribe, I dont know anything about them, so Yes I am hesitant to just start trashing their beliefs.(that does not imply that I believe in those beliefs) for all I know, your story could be wrong, or it could be a gross misrepresentation of their beliefs(through no fault of yours).
As far as the Native american belief system of accessing our spiritual side through nature, I am not saying I believe it, but I will not dismiss it out of hand either.
By definitions, all opposing belief systems can not have equal merit. At least not in the ways they are practised. they underlying beliefs may or may not end uppointing in the same direction. what I am saying is that none of us can know unequivocally if that is true. You can have very strong convictions bsed on your own feelings and thought processes, but tht is as close as you can get, IMO.
