Dear Steve - rumor is one of the byproducts of WS. Granted that a co [not restricted to BAY for that matter] should defend itself from unfound rumor, especially of the negative kind, if mgt deems public comments prematurely may jeopardize ongoing negotiations in various business dealings, it may have to bite its tongue until the time is ripe.

To move away from BAY for a minute, Damilier and Chrysler spent 5 mos to hammer out a deal. As a postmortem, Messr Eaton has commented that a premature revelation would likely torpedoed <my wordings> the deal. Therefore, as an investor, I feel it is far better for me to trust mgt to do its work without demanding immediate gratification at every instance. Of course, jmho
