DCF,
Shouldn't that be "man and/or woman" penned......."
The object was to keep a thumb on the masses. You're right about how easy it was to do the same to women at the time.
It was more of a challenge to control society in general. In fact, controlling other men was their greatest challenge. At the time, as always, men were prone to let their more basic emotions overcome their common sense. Remember--"coveting your neighbors wife & goods." This challenge to keep social order(making sure, for the most part, that children could identify their own fathers) was answered with the commandments(as one example).
You'll turn to stone or burn in hell or someother nasty result.....if you do not "honor your father & mother"......or forget to "keep holy the sabbath"......ooooooooh!!! that one was a biggy among the religious leaders, I'm sure. If the masses didn't show up at church, or temple, or the mosque(hope I haven't forgotten any) the church leaders might not receive as many $$$ as they had become accustomed to.
Sorry, if the above is rambling, but the market is open:o)
Say a prayer for MSFT<gggg> |
