Well, I knew PCs were cheap. I also knew about the Compaq inventory problem and that they were cutting prices to move the goods. But, since HWP publicly stated they DID NOT have an inventory problem, I expected that HWP machines would be more current and command higher averages prices than Compaq could get for its boxes.

This market share stuff puzzles me. Let Compaq dump. Let them lose money. So what if HWP loses a few points to Compaq during the period? At least make money... then fight it out and make Compaq lose money again next quarter.

This whole thing reminds me of what I heard once: "We're losing money on every unit but making it up in volume!"
