House approves three-year moratorium on new Net taxes.

WASHINGTON -- The U.S. House Commerce Committee on Thursday unanimously approved legislation to impose a three-year moratorium on
new state and local taxes that discourage greater use of the Internet.

"This bill seeks to keep the tax man out of cyberspace," Panel chairman Tom Bliley, R-Va., said of the measure sponsored by California Republican Christopher Cox. "As electronic commerce emerges as the new marketplace for the 21st Century, it's important that we keep the Internet free from unnecessary taxation and regulation."
