Vince,

all software is a snapshot of a work in process. Excel, Word, Netscape any. Management draws a line in the sand saying these features and no more -- and as soon as (or a bit before) the golden bits are written onto a CD -- the team heads off on the next batch of cool stuff. "Ready, fire, aim" as Guy Kawasaki would say. This is neither surprising nor an indictment of the product. It's in production use as a critical path element TODAY for MAJOR digital animation houses. Yes the workflow is different from PA or SoftFromage, but as to it not being ready for real work -- FEH! The Bingo project is quite aggressive, as are many of the others in progress.

Do I think current PA users should shift over in the middle of a production.. probably not. Should they be looking at it for their next production -- absolutely. You give a good animator a week with the product and they'll be fully online and productive. The fact that **major** productions are being based on a version 1 product -- even with the strong assistance of A|W assist (hmmm, that's their job) says huge amounts about the stability and usability of the product -- and the user's confidence therein.

You sound like one of the anti-Mac, anti-Windows whiners who didn't like the mouse and wanted to stay with their WordPerfect PF-keys. "oooh it's not like my old software..." You're right. It's better dammit!

As for letting 90 people go, it's just not so. Beyond that I'll not comment.

unofficially -- john
