You may be mixing up information regarding the African deployment. SKYC via its subsidiary, AMRC, is sending two satellites into space (already contracted with Hughes). These will be operational by 2000, if I am not mistaken. A third satellite has not been contracted, yet. These will provide service over all of the US. WorldSpace may end up owning 82% of this business via options from AMRC.

WorldSpace's system will cover the entire world. Part of it may be operational by late this year.

The ACTEL deal that I referred to as the big news for SKYC, is in reference to a mobile satellite phone service that will cover the entire continent of Africia. When/if that deal goes through (SKYC leases its phone satellite to ACTEL), I expect SKYC do go to $ 15+ (soon).

However, as I said before, SKYC and CDRD are similar in that they will both be offering Digital Radio serivice in the entire US and both will have 50 channels. Also, both will be up and running about the same time, though it appears that CDRD is scheduled to start about a year sooner (but we'll see).

SKYC has been quiet about what they plan to do. Perhaps, this is why SKYC is not going up as fast as CDRD. Below I've provided some info from SKYC's 10K so that you can better understand CDRD's only direct competitor at that time (Worldspace/AMRC deal).

Notes on deal between SKYC (owns AMRC) and WorldSpace:

I hope this helps !

SKYC ended $ 11.50b $ 11.66a on high volume, again (for them).

Also, note that in valuespec.com, I have a SKYC Stock Library set up that has much more info on the company, including some transcripts of recent conference calls.
