A Boxmaker is just the same as an automaker. But which one is truely harder to make. An Automobile.

True enough, but which of these is harder:
1. Build an automobile
2. Build a PC ENTIRELY in the distribution chain with no inventory,
and yet still gather enough information in your intranet to
recognize revenue, handle customer service issues, maintain
active customer lists, etc. and ultimately make enough money
so that you can thrive with 5% profit margins.

Keep in mind, that in many ways no one has done 2 before. There is no automation to support it - you have to write it yourself, hundreds of pgms. If you want to build a car, just call EDS they will sell you a pkg that does everything you need and has worked for 10 yrs. Of course if you want to IMPROVE on the costs of mfg that car, and adopt the Dell model (not likely given the complexity but just for arguments sake) then that car manufacturer would have the same issues Dell has.
