Sorry Sire,

I know you're looking for links to reassure yourself, and others that Y2K is no big problem. But ... Union Pacific a Success Story?? Some of us have been investigating this in-depth, far longer than you.

You should be following what's been going on with Union Pacific over past 6+ months. Major disaster story. Government stepping in and applying pressure. Trains have been backed up for months. Houston area has been the biggest problem (that's how I'm aware of it). Affects many areas states outside of Texas and south into Mexico. (It's in the papers here a lot.) Multi-milliion dollar court cases against Union Pacific. Mostly, as I recall, from chemical companies. Some businesses have gone bankrupt. Billion+ negative impact on economy.

The article in that link is from January '97. Thanks for finding it. Am gonna email ITAA so it can be removed. itaa.org

Besides what's already been going on ...

"What most worries Fred Krause, the 41-year Union Pacific veteran charged with tracking suppliers' year 2000 plans, is computerized equipment, such as trackside event recorders and the black boxes on locomotives."

They have more problems than they can handle right now. If this is a Y2K railroad success story ... we're in BIG trouble.
