I like Darrell Smith's response to this, and I'll add the following:

Dell is starting to stabilize some of their product lines to that larger companies can standardize on a particular configuration (as opposed to upping the CPU speed and changing I/O cards every week). I think this tactic plays into Dell's strength in inventory management and it also builds customer loyalty.

It makes Dell a more *predictable* vendor to deal with, and that can save a CIO a lot of money in TCO.
