Trying for homers shouldn't make you crazy! What makes you crazy is paying such close attention to short term price movements. That is not consistent with "trying for homers".

If you think that JBL could be a $100 stock in five years, for example, based on fundamentals you have researched and understand, why do you care if this week it hits $45 and pulls back to $40? I generally do not watch the price closely unless I feel that a stock has temporarily gotten WAY ahead of itself and major downside is highly likely.

In taxable accounts, the difference between long and short term tax rates will eat up most of any gains from trading in and out, unless the countertrend move is major, and that assumes you do not make many mistakes in calling these short term swings.
