I've employed 4 digits worth of engineers in my career. Never did I have a VP of Sales or Marketing who ever wanted a single one of them in the room with another company's management (techie to techie ok, but not techie to management). Microsoft has created a huge industry of outside training firms because it made a decision that its resources were best used writing code, not teaching end-users.
When is the last time you took a MS-sponsored course in Word or Excel? I rest my case. Goldman's 601 on this thread pretty much sums it up.
Turning to charting, I am not in a position to disagree with you because I have never seen a live action demo of CT screens. I merely interpolate what various individuals who have seen the CT system and its competitors say. But discussions with CT mgmt do bring the admission that it will take v1.6 to be competitive with some implementations of RealTick. I'm not here to point out nits. The very immaturity of this industry is manifest in the fact that you can't try before you buy. Is there a leading PC s/w app that you can't get on a 30 day trial basis? So why not in our vocation? Our personal time is precious, and learning curves are steep. The more we learn one package, the less likely we will jump ship for another -- unless there is some compelling reason. So far, I see no compelling reason for anyone to switch s/w packages in this business. Maybe we are unhappy with other aspects of a firm's practices, but nobody has s/w that is a Mt. Everest among molehills.
Can't quarrel with anything you say about the advantages of FR. But you really haven't answered the question. If I put a thimble full of water through a garden hose or an 18" culvert, is it going to get to the other end of either conduit any faster? Tracert is all well and good, but I'm stunned that nobody can tell me what CT's data rate is. I even called Cyber the other day, and nobody knew. Now I'm sure somebody must, but the inability for Cyber to tell me just reinforces the fact that just as the PC taught us very bad habits about "vaporware", this industry seems to be hyping attributes that may or may not make any practical difference, based on current data rates.
At one time my staff had every conceivable telecomm capability known to man. But my star Cal Tech and Stanford engineers generally relied on their T-1 Internet connections -- saying it was "good enough".
