re DELL analyst meeting
Stock Bull,
1) As I understand it, DELL can't hold an analyst meeting now, because with earnings next week they are in the "quiet period". *
2) DELL did hold an analyst meeting on about 9 April I believe. My impression is that was a major event (like all day?). It is noteworthy that not one analyst lowered estimates or ratings after the meeting (to my knowledge). Nor am I aware that they raised them.
3) A DELL spokesman (CEO Michael or CFO Meredith) appeared at the Hambrect and Quist conference about 1-2 weeks after that, and once again reported 'robust' sales.
It would have been easy, convenient, and simple for either of those two spokesmen to have gently reduced expectations at those conferences, blaming a possible slowdown on Asia, El Nino, or cut-throat competition. Yet they did not. You interpret that as you wish.
* Is there anyone who can provide a link or definitively explain the term "quiet period"? What it is, when it is, and what legal, traditional, or punitive force it carries?
