GalaGen Inc. Announces Launch of Basics Plus Dietary Supplement in Twin Cities Supermarkets

ARDEN HILLS, Minn., May 14 /PRNewswire/ -- GalaGen Inc. (Nasdaq: GGEN - news), a development stage nutritional products company, announced at its annual meeting yesterday, that Basics Plus(TM), a nutritional dairy beverage developed in collaboration with Chicago-based Lifeway Foods, Inc. (Nasdaq: LWAY - news), has been introduced in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area in selected Byerly's and other supermarkets. Basics Plus is being manufactured and test marketed in other selected cities across the country by Lifeway and has also been introduced into the Ukraine and other international markets. The beverage contains GalaGen's Proventra(TM) immune-boosting ingredient and targets the rapidly growing healthy beverage market, estimated to exceed $20 billion annually.

''Lifeway Foods and GalaGen are pleased to introduce Basics Plus in the Twin Cities,'' said Robert A. Hoerr, M.D., Ph.D., GalaGen's president and CEO. ''Basics Plus is the first refrigerated, dairy-based enhanced dietary supplement designed especially for health-conscious consumers. The product contains natural and nutritious ingredients to promote good health.''

Basics Plus, considered a functional food or nutraceutical, is designed to provide health benefits beyond its nutritional value. The product is made with active kefir cultures, creating a yogurt-like fermented beverage, and GalaGen's proprietary Proventra brand ingredient, which contains antibodies and other components. These natural ingredients work together to enhance the health of an individual's gastrointestinal tract and supplement the body's immune system.

GalaGen Inc. is utilizing its expertise in its antibody platform technology to develop a portfolio of proprietary nutritional products, including dietary supplements and medical foods, which incorporate its Proventra(TM) Brand Natural Immune Components. These products will target the needs of both consumers and healthcare professionals. Basics Plus(TM) is the first nutritional product to be launch from the Chicago-based Lifeway Food, Inc. and GalaGen Inc. collaboration. GalaGen has several other projects in various stages of development.

It says that Basics Plus has been introduced into other international markets in addition to the Ukraine and is being test marketed in several cities across the country. Looks like they aren't wasting any time in getting this product distributed all over the place. I like the sound of that.
